Another Gearbox Question

Recommended Posts

unariciflocos

I've got an Mi16 on a 1.9 Be3 box and the gearing is way too long. A friend told me that he has a diff with a cwp that will shorten the overall ratio of the gearbox. I've counted the teeth on the crown of his diff and there are 62 teeth. Does anyone know the number of teeth on a standard 1.9 diff? Would this 62 teeth cwp diff give me a shorter box?

Thanks,

Andrei

As far as I know (I havent counted myself) the 1.9 box has a 61/17 cwp. The 1.6 has 65/16. Don't know for sure what uses a 62 teeth crown wheel, but 62/14 gives 4.43:1 which is what is quoted for the Mi16 'box.

So if I swap only the diff I'll get 62/17, so that's barely an improvement. Thanks for the info.

LE: After a bit more searching on the web i found this: http://www.rallyparts.co.uk/peugeot/gearbox/pug_gearing.xls and it answers some of the questions I had, although mine is a 1.9 Euro Rallye so have no idea what box it has , since there were only 1000 made and there is absolutely no info on them.

you cannot just swap the crownwheel, you have to swap the pinion as it matches the teeth.
