Difference In Gear Linkages?

Recommended Posts

A2TheA

hi all,

Do the lift up reverse gearboxes and pull down gearboxes share the same gear linkages?

I have found my gearbox swap has given me a gear selection problem. I can't find many gears mainly what I'm thinking to be reverse.

Anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks Aaron

Yeh they both have the same linkages. I expect that they are just adjusted incorrectly, you can lengthen and shorten them as neccessary. Make sure the 'L' bracket isnt fouling on anything!

You sure that the clutch isn't dragging, and that the gearbox is attached properly? Both will make it difficult to engage gears.

I've done a few BE1 - BE3 swaps, and I've never needed to change or adjust the gear linkages.

Ok the gear box is out.its an mi16 running a gti box. The gears select fine when moved by hand. But it doesn't like being in the car. Strange and annoying! I tried to adjust the linkages but it made no difrence.

Any ideas?

Do the gears engage fine with the engine not running? If they do, I'd look towards the clutch...

Its a brand new clutch. And they weren't engaging in the car. The gears are not able to be Selected there issome movement but not a lot. When the linkages are removed there is loads of movement.

On the gearbox, have you replaced the lever for one from a 205? I found that with the Mi16 box I had from a BX there was the wrong gear selector lever, which is held to the gearbox by a pin, with another smaller pin inside itself. compare the ones on your mi16 box to your 1.6 box and if they differ, I think you have your issue there.

I FOUND IT!

The lift up reverse has a cable which was jamming the gear selection.

Take it out and hey presto.

Thanks all

I'm guessing your reverse is next to first then?

Be careful!

no it was with the lift up reverse. but after looking at my brothers phase 2 the cable which runs from the top of the gearbox to the gearstick is non exsitant. so ive just altered mine a little to keep the hole (if i took it out) on the top of the gearbox covered but keeping the cable there for now.

all sorted now though. just got to find this fuel pump wire lol...

Thanks guys
