Black Coolant Exp Tank - Where Is Max?

Recommended Posts

Masekwm

Just changed the 205's coolant, but not sure where max is on the black tank?

Search says either fill it to the top to bleed it, but the level is the top line on the outside. Which is correct?

Thanks

Keith

I would fill it to 3/4 full as if you fill it to top when it gets hot it will chuck it out.

In which case it'll find it's own level anyway!

i tend to fill mine so it just covers the plastic mouldings that are visable on the inside. it works out about half way.

As mentioned, you can't really over fill as the system is not pressurised and will spit out any excess when warm and find its own level.

i think you will find that it is pressurised. hence why theres a spring in the cap to retain the pressure, and no overflow bottle like the nissans.

all coolant systems produce the pressure from the fact you are heating the coolant up to around boiling point. thats why nissans have the overflow bottle so they dont dump the coolant, and can draw coolant back into the system when it cools down.

Sorry you're right, essentially its not sealed like the 1.4 TU3, thats a better description. Point is the same though, it doesn't hurt if you overfill a bit! the same cannot be said of the 1.4 where the cap only allows a little air in when needed.

agreed that you can over fill it. when i first changed my rad i forgot to look at filling and put it right to the top. :) a couple of squeezes of the top rad hose got me to an acceptable level.lol.
