Mi16 2.0…problem No Spark?

Recommended Posts

Mi16 2.0 Running Twin carbs, 8v Distibutor and Loom. No spark???

I have a problem with my newly installed engine; I can’t get a spark, it turns over when you turn on the ignition, as the starter motor kicks in but there is no spark.

What could be the problem, I have tried 2 coils and 2 ignition amplifiers. I’m starting to think it may have some kind of immobilizer, where could this be and how do I disable??

I have this simple ignition loom:

Hope someone can help, I just want to drive it!

as in the second position? when it should only turn over on the 3rd?

do you have power to the coil on the 2nd click and when cranking?

Sorry I was a bit unclear, I meant it turns over when the key is fully turned (3rd position). I'm not sure if I have power to the coil (no circuit tester), but I noticed the ignition amp was warm after a few turn over attempts.

do your self a favour then and buy one, i may have even seen one sold at the pound shop.

an immobilizer could be anywhere. all the info you need to fix this problem is on the site if you search

As said a tester or even just a bulb & holder with some wires off it will do the job.

You really need to find out if you have a live when cranking before anything else.

No power to the coil, well thats what the circuit tester says. Bought one today in maplins. The battery shows it has power and the starter motor kicks in on 3rd turn.

No power on 2nd or 3rd turn of key.

I think I've read pretty much every article, the loom is basically the same as the one in the carb conversion article, as shown in the image on this topic.

so you need to work back and find why there's no power

Is it important to have the ignition amp and coil mounted on the bracket (inner wing)?

not necessarily as long as its earthed properly you could mount it where you like. Mounting it on that inner wing means its gets earthed to the car body

The large plate acts as a heatsink so it's important that you keep that bit though
