How do I upgrade the oil pump in my mi 16.

Someone mentioned using a diesel oil pump. Which engine does the higher capacity pump come from and will it be a straight fit?

Just wrecked my engine today....lack of oil!!!! Track day!

Thanks !

Sorry to hear this, but....is it wrecked through lack of oil, meaning you didn't have enough oil in the car? If that's the case then changing the oil pump's not going to improve matters.

Track days, with very grippy tyres and long fast sweeping bends can cause oil starvation - which is not the same as lack of oil - because the oil pump cannot pick-up any oil because the head's locking a lot of it away and what's left of the oil has surged over to one side of the sump.

The upgrades you want (apart from keeping enough oil in the engine) are:

* increase the oil capacity (use a spacer between the sump and the block(

* fit a baffled sump (if you haven't already - GTI6 or modified sump including a trap door)

* extend the oil pump pick-up approx 12-15mm

* upgrade the spring inside the Mi oil pump (Cameron's project thread shows this being done IIRC)

I'm saying the Mi oil pump is fine, and it's optional to upgrade the spring inside it. Plenty of people on here run Mi oil pumps, some without the other mods I've listed and don't have any problems.

Did you have a baffled sump?
