Standard Oil Cooler

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I put a standard oil cooler on my 1.9 and having some issues. It keeps leaking from one of the connectors on the oil cooler.... I've stuck some PTFE tape on it with a bit of sealant and it still leaking, I think the cooler might be faulty. I'm in two minds to just remove it totally and run it without! The engine is pretty much standard, is there any point of it being on? It is a '88, was these fitted with coolers from factory?

I've also noticed with the cooler fitted it takes a couple of seconds or so for the pressure warning light to go out, im guessing the oil is draining back when switch off and it has to fill it before it gains pressure.

Any suggestions? It's stopping me using it at the moment due to the oil leak :)

Thanks guys,

Dan

I have a 1990 G reg 1.9 and mine leaks from where the hoses join the sump, tried to seal it with metal putty but failed! Replacing it with a second hand one from ebay but did consider just blanking it off. I'd think with UK weather is cool enough to do without but for piece of mind I'm replacing mine.

I had the same trouble with mine and I removed it completely as it was a pain in the ass!!! I've had no problems at all running without one and use mine for road rallying so the engine reved hard for long periods of time.

PTFE on the threads will do little to seal them as its an O-ring that does the sealing.

Oh dear.... Mine doesn't have any O-rings. I thought its sealed by the angle of the mating surface on the oil cooler and the pipes if that makes sense?
