Front Discs/pads Renewal

I'm going to use my part-worn minetx 1144s.

Chocolate... "I bought a pair of discs today for about £24"

I've been quoted 37quid including VAT from my local parts supplier, did you get those discs new? If so where from?

Thanks for the advice!

Yep, new from a company called AE Cooks in Scunny, literally round the corner from moi.

Anywho, I've done all the changing over today from Autofive kit to standard sized discs. Done discs and pads swappage, and it feels different (sounds silly I know).

I took it out for a drive to bed the brakes in and after a few miles there is the initial bite for hard & progressive braking as before, but not much in the middle after initial bite (pads are Black Diamond Predator). Then when coming to a stop theres some bite. Now on the Autofive kit (which is all else I've had on the Pug since purchase), the Greenstuff pads were spongey throughout but bit well and progressively so were more say predicable. The Predator ones (on the first 20ish miles or bedding in) seem quite hard.

Anyone any thoughts on this. Is it a trait of the particular pad I have now or maybe a fluid issue, bedding in period??

I would agree that all this 'drilled' and 'grooved' disk thing is a bit of a myth.

No doubt someone's gonna say 'well the big boys do it'. Well yeah: they're not quite at the level "we're" at are they; there's much, much more at stake.

I have found Ferodo DS2500s for me to be excellent on the front and Mintex 1144s to be complimentary on the back.

I am not for one milli-second saying that's optimum, or that I really know what I'm on about, but I'm saying this combo works really well on 1.9 disks front and rear on a (very) quick road car.

The above combo also works very well transferring from fast road (the demands of the Swiss Alps for example) to track. But as with all things they are a compromise. Start pushing very hard on track and I suspect that they'll quickly show they're not up to to the job.

You'll have to excuse me but anyone who calls their braking product 'Predator' or something like that is not someone I personally would buy from. That's like calling a chocolate bar 'Instant Orgasm'.

Thanks for the input, and by all means you're entitled to your opinion as much as the next man. I've always rated Black Diamond (who make the pad) in high redard and have heard good things about the brand in general and particular pad, hense my choice. I don't personally tar a brand for a bit of a daft pad name, but again respect to everyones opinions.

The Ferodo's were a little steep for my available budget, but maybe next time if I have the car that long. :D
