Erratic Gti6 Idle Sorted

Recommended Posts

M@tt

my gti 6 developed an erratic idle where it was almost stall when approaching a standstill and on occasions would do so. I cleaned up all the throttle body and attached sensors and then found when i restarted the engine the idle was all over the place, it would fluctuate greatly and on occasions rocket to about 4k. Luckily i I had a spare gti 6 engine so i tried swapping a few parts and it turned out a replacement ICV sorted it.

I took the old one apart and found the end was quite worn, I'm guessing that cleaning all the gunk out of it highlighted how worn it was and made it unable to seal properly, allowing unwanted air in and causing the idle to play up.

Anyway here's a quick pic of the offending item

Sounds similar to the problem I'm having - I've got a recent thread about it somewhere.

Occasionally (and it seems to only do it when started from warm and then only sometimes :P ) the revs just die when I come up to a junction. ie. stopped/just about stopped, with the clutch pedal down.

I know it's not the ICV as mine is brand new and otherwise it idles spot on. I was thinking possibly the MAF or TPS, but the last thing Maxi suggested was the VSS. Think they're about 30 quid?

VSS's are stupidly pricey, I ran mine for a week or two without one, just was a bit lumpy when changing gears at low speeds and setting off.

I got one off a mate from a 106 rallye

The VSS is more like £60, i got one from a 1.4 TU Phase 1 306, and so did George for his V6 :)
