Kent "power Pulleys"

Recommended Posts

SPGTi

I am just in the process of fitting the Kent pulleys to my GTI6 head but cannot see how to lock the cams while I torque up the pulley bolt. There doesn't seem to be a hole to fit a locking dowel.

If I fit the belt etc, time it up then torque the bolts so if one thing moves everything moves, will this be OK ?

cheers

Steve

Is there anything on the cams themselves to get spanner on like some do.Wouldnt really torque them up relying on belt to hold them as if 1 skips a

tooth your redoing everything.

You'll be ok torqueing them up on the belt as long as its tensioned properly. I did it to mine and nothing bad happened. :)

whip the cam cover off and use a suitable sized piece of wood to wedge between the cam and the head wall to stop it rotating as you torque up the pulley bolt.

Pulley bolt only needs 35Nm torque to tighten it so not alot, just make sure you use threadlock to stop it vibrating loose

I thought GTi6 cam bolts were 60Nm or something?

s*it thought it were a mi16 for some reason didn't read it properly!! sorry

just checked autodata and it says

Crankshaft/pulley bolt 40Nm+_2Nm

Camshaft Sprocket/Gear 130Nm+-10Nm

I'm pretty sure they've got that round the wrong way though!!

EDIT> checked another year on the auto data and says

Crankshaft/pulley bolt 110Nm

Camshaft Sprocket/Gear 40Nm

so 35/40Nm will be fine

Will have a go today. Just another quick question, how should I position the adjustable pulleys to start ? In the center of the adjustment so there is equal adjustment either way ?

By the way I set the cam positions using std pulleys.

cheers

Yeah I'd stick them in the centre so you've got room either side.

I can't remember which engine it is but don't some of the PSA 16v engines have a hex pattern on the camshaft under the rocker covers to hold the camshaft with for torqueing the cam pulley bolts?

Graham.
