Help With Be1 Box Please

Recommended Posts

jord294

someone is bound to know the answer  (i hope)

i've got a be1 box which i have removed from my car for cleaning and painting.

while the box is out, i will be changing various seals, and have already resealed the diff cover. i also have a new clutch fork and ball joint to fit.

for those that are familiar with be1 gearboxes, the ball joint is splined and knocks into the casting of the box (no.9)

here is my problem.

the hole where the ball joint goes, is worn, and the new ball joint pushes in with ease.

how can i fix this?

use an instant metal putty, or something similar?

i did think of trying to get hold of a ball end from somewhere, with a thread instead of spline. then i could tap the gearbox casting and screw in the new ball joint.

any help much appreciated

Not answering your question directly but if it's a late BE1 box then I would change to the BE3 Clutch Arm

it's an early box, fitted with a 4.4:1 crown wheel and pinion
