Oil Pressure Guage Not Working

Recommended Posts

M_R_205

i cant seem to get my oil pressure guage to work :D i have renewed the wire from the brown, under dash plug (wire 30A i belive) with a fresh one and a new connector, and no joy, i earthed it direct to the battery and again no joy,

So i guess my question is, which pin on the clocks themselvs controlls the oil pressure guage?, there is no numbers on the wires and no markings on the connectors anoyingly, though the haynes seems to think that the wire connects to 1A???

Anny help appriciated

Paul.

From a quick look in the Haynes manual the oil pressure guage wire is 30B & it goes to pin a1 on the clocks which I think is the first pin on the l/h of the clocks as you look at them (yellow plug with 8 pins).

I've just belled out the guage on a spare set of clocks I have & thats the main one, the other pins from the back of the clocks go to the r/h plug (10 pins) pin 1 & 5 as you look at them in the car via a resistor.

Is fuse #2 blown?

Graham.

In your first picture they look to have the built in oil level sensor, are they 205 guages or from a BX?

It looks like only three of the pins on the pressure guage are used on the clocks I have here, the pin without the nut isn't connected to anything.

I think if you refit them as they are in the second picture the pressure guage will work if you prevuiously tried it with the extra gubbins fitted though.

Iv just tryed that, iv also tryed soldering various bits to other bits to no avail, i think what im going to do is get hold of some gti guages and swap the clock faces over, iv been at this for two days and im pulling my hair out lol

How much would you be after for your guages if you were to sell them?

Cheers

Paul.

Sorry, I'm not selling them.

They are the euro ones with oil / water temps & oil pressure figures on.

Sorry to hijack this thread.

Do those euro clocks have the same circuit board as the normal ones without numbers ?

I heard that auto 205/309 gti's have these euro style clocks as well.

My one originally came from a 309 GTI, auto afaik ?

Yes, the guage will just swap across into any 205/309 GTi clocks.

I'd expect the auto 205 GTI's (not Gentry) to have them as they were originally intended for the japanese / european market where they were standard fitment but not so sure about the auto 309 GTI.

I can see that you have the oil level circuit fitted to those gauges, most likely they are from a citoen BX. To get the oil pressure gauge to work you have to remove the oil level circuitry as that uses the same gauge as oil pressure. Remove the white plastic part from the gauges (it has a circuit board inside) and dissonnect the 6 pin blue connector as seen in pic 2. You now have to remove that blue connector and flexy plastic by removing a couple of bulbs and the nuts and washers from the oil pressure gauge. Once removed, replace bulbs, nuts and washers and it will now work.
