Mi16 (1.9) Striped Tread In Head

I have a striped thread on the bottom rear of the 4 m6 bolts that hold the thermostat housing to the head.

Can I safely drill and re-tap this to an m8?

i'd helicoil it back to an M6

But to do that I would have to drill it out first. It is that I am a bit apprehensive about doing.
