Odd Oil Pressure

Recommended Posts

iamjackiechan

evening

my s16 205 conversion is almost complete and have now done a few little test drives but when the car is started oil pressure is bang on

sitting in the middle of the gauge but once the engine is at full temperature the gauge shows the oil pressure sitting just below the first bar

all the way to the left.

i expected the pressure to drop as the engine warms up but is this way to far.

could it be to do with the original 205 gauge parts with the s16 sensor parts.

once the pressure gets to this point it stays there and rises and drops perfectly with the revs.

anyone had anything like this.

will

I have a 8v but I'd imagine the pressure to be similar, when first started it sits just above the 4th bar. When hot it sits at the 1st and increase to the 3rd during driving.... I'd say thats normal to me?

Sounds normal to me, I wouldn't worry about it. So long as the pressure rises when the engine is revved then there is nothing to worry about, low pressure at hot idle is just due to low oil pump speed, and thin oil due to viscosity change with temperature.

I found the s16 sensor makes the 205 gauge read about half, the idea of half the first bar pressur eat idle I didn't like, I put the 205 sensor on and presto it looked much healthier.

Yes it is exactly that, the s16 sender doesn't deflect the 205 gauge as much as the original sender. Either live with it or get an adaptor from a hydraulic supplier or Miles on here.

on my mi16 the pressure is just below the last bar on cold start up and when at full temp on idle it is on the first bar beside the red but when reved it rises up to normal so dont think you have a problem

You're aware you've just plucked this thread from 6 months ago!! Not to mention already answered and didn't really need answering again!
