floodys 4 1 Cars Posted August 13, 2009 silly question maybe but, i hope to do a few laps of silverstone at trax this year and it will be first time round a track on new R888's so question is do i need to "scrub" them in before going on track i.e drive it to silverstone on 888's or can i just go straight on track with brand new rubber?? cheers
EdCherry 34 1 Cars Posted August 13, 2009 You can go on the track with brand new rubber yes, you can also scrub them in. Depends what you want to do.
James_R 3 Posted August 14, 2009 Would be an idea to take them out for a spin on the road to get the mould release stuff off the outside of them.
engine killer 6 Posted August 14, 2009 Bare in mind that brand new virgin rubber = skippy skippy skippy, no matter road legal tyre or slick.
Tom Fenton 1,536 Posted August 14, 2009 I'd get at least 50 miles on them personally, just to get the slippery top layer off. Plus the fact R888's are road legal tyres, so drive there on them and it saves you the hassle of swapping wheels and tyres over when you get there!
Nick C 0 Posted August 16, 2009 Make sure you set the prssures right before going on track. If too high you can easily wreak a set. Something to start with would be about 28 front and 30 rear, maybe even a touch lower, and test the pressure when you come in, ideally want about 31 - 32psi hot. James_R 3 Posted August 18, 2009 I discovered this morning a few laps of a big roundabout at speed is enough to scrub off the release agent from the outside of the tyre hmm super grippy
C_W 3 1 Cars Posted August 19, 2009 Don't think R888s need scrubbing in, they're "ready for use", as soon as you turn the first corner in them you'll feel how much more grip they have than a normal road tyre. May aswell run them on the raod to Silverstone though - it won't wear them out!
