Gti-6 Mated To A Mi16 Head?

Recommended Posts

powermandan

Hi, there is a possiblity i might be able to get hold of a cheap gti-6 bottem end mated to a mi16 head.

I read a post somewhere that this reduces the compression ratio, but would like to confirm?

If it does reduce it, can i get the head decked to sort it out? any ideas how much it would cost me?

Thanks

Dan

Gti6 head on Mi bottom end gives you increased compression, good head with out the oil retaining issues of the Mi head.

Mi head on a Gti bottom end will give you a better condition bottom end (unless it was an rebuilt mi one) which will 'die' prematurely probably due to the mi head holding onto the oil in the corners. Bottom end is larger (good!), heavier (bad) and the whole lot will give a lower compression. Overall it's probably best avoided

compression is around the 9.8-1 region, quite a bit lower than the gti6's original 10.8, not a combination I'd bother with tbh.

Although if you get hold of a set of Mi16 rods and pistons you could drop them in to make an Mi16, don't forget to swap the bottom sprocket+pulley (and spacer IIRC) and the tensioners for 2.0 Mi16 items.
