I Think I'm Being 'special' But...

Below is my Ph1 8v 1.9 GTI finally all in one piece! I've filled up the gearbox with oil (2 litres) and will do the coolant in a bit, but first I want to do the engine oil...but I have a problem.

The cam cover (where most cars have a filler cap) does not have a filler cap. Haynes says to put it in the pressure thingy...I got confused and didn't want to dump 5l of oil into the wrong thing.

So...where do I put my oil? I think it's the black cylinder in the middle of the engine (and pic, next to the air feed) but don't want to do it till I've had it confirmed.

Thanks all.

Confirmed.

Black pot next to the inlet manifold and air intake ducting.

It was new when I went to put it all back together, so I'd hope it isn't disintegrated.

Cool, so pop the top off and pour away? :P

Engine layout explained

yes, but keep checking the dipstick as you dont want to overfill t

The engine takes a full 5l so unless you open a second tub of oil or its not empty when you start, you won't overfill it.

You're not alone FinalD as many moons ago when we had our 309GTI, I couldn't even get that thing off let alone top up the oil, I ended up filling via the dipstick hole? It was so tight it was unreal. The book wasn't much help either, still that was a LOOOONNGGGG time ago now.

oh and well done on saving a PH1.
