Unable To Select Any Gear!

Recommended Posts

Need some help before i pull the gearbox off,

basically i can't select a gear, i presume because the clutch isn't releasing. The clutch pedal moves, the input rod moves, but there is no resistance when i press the pedal. I'm hoping that it's either the clutch or the release bearing?? can anyone shed any light on whether i am right in my guesses??

Clutch cable snapped? Check its working, get someone to watch the cable move the lever before you go taking boxs off.

If the gearbox lever is OK then the cable is OK. Check that the engine to gearbox bolts are in and tight. But after that you'll need to pull the box. I have seen the ends of the diaphram fingers worn nearly through on high mileage cars, so it could be that these have worn right the way through so there is nothing for the release bearing to act upon.

Ok thanks for that, i have a new clutch lurking somewhere in the garage, looks like i'll have to bit the bullet and pull the box off. Was just trying to save myself another day in the garage :)
