Mi 16 Head Preparation....

Recommended Posts

RalliArt

I have a Mi 16 head, but there are a several corrosion holes on the facial side, probable because of running the engine with water or bad antifreeze... so my question is what's the maximum thickness that I can skim the head, 1(one) mm will be a problem... with a normal head gasket, probable 1,2 mm..... have some of you did those kind of experiments with a mi16 head.....

The limit is the valve seats. When you start cutting into them.............. A 0.5mm skim is usually sufficient to clean things up. If not, tig the bad holes up first.

1mm is a HUGE amount to take off. normally a skim of 0.025-0.075mm is taken off one pass at a time until the surface is good. 0.2-0.25mm is about what i'd expect to be removed in a "normal" skim, unless you're specifying for a compression increase.
