Rear Knocking

Did you order an 21mm offset / drop ring spanner? The nut is partly recessed, so it's much, much easier with an offset spanner.

 

You'll also need a 7mm allen bit for holding the shaft if you don't already have one, assuming it's standard OE dampers (which I'm 99% sure it was)

 

Yep, as advised on Bonzais thread I got a deep offset ring spanner. It's amazing how few people have 21mm spanners, for the alternator my friend who works in corus as a fitter had to borrow a whitworth that was a close fit off one of the old guys there for me!

 

Got the allen key alrady, looks like an oe damper to me.

Just a final update, changed the top mounts, strut bearings and droplinks both sides and it seems to have cured the steering clunking and knocking noise. Not too bad a job but some of he bolts took some persuading/hacksawing! Done ~15 miles and all seems well. Think I'll get the tracking checked soon to be on the safe side too. Cheers all for your help!
