Bit Of Advice Needed With Mi Engine

Recommended Posts

col16vt

right so basically i have just finished my 205 1.9 16v mi conversion and done a couple of hundred miles and the engine is now knackered so i need to know what engine will fit back in place.does any 1.8/1.9/2.0 16v peugeot/citroen engine fit and match my manifolds?what bottom ends will fit my head?do they all bolt onto my existing mounts?basically i want to change either the block and head complete or put a different bottom end on it and need to know my options.

i have an opportunity to by a 2.016v from a w reg 406 will this engine fit using my inlet/exhaust manifolds so i can use my engine management?

cheers in advance for all replies

The only engine that will match your exhaust manifold is another Mi16 as they're twin port. Why don't you just stick another Mi in there?

or just rebuild it as they all need it by now.

okay so that narrows down the complete engine to a mi

but would the 2.0l 16v bottom end from the 406 fit my mi head?

i would put another mi in it but they are expensive and hard to find round me and i have alreday blown a lot of money on this car.

oh and mine is knackered beyond repair

Nothing's really knackered beyond repair. OK the block may have a rod sticking through it, but it's not tough to swap bottom ends.

So go on, why is it FUBAR'd? And what did you do to FUBAR it?

Did you not check the condition of the engine before putting it in?

You actually sound half pleased it lasted 200 miles... :P

why should the mi16-head not fit to a s16-bottom?

some people do xu10j2-heads on xu9ja-bottoms... so the mounting should match!

only question is the resulting CR...

you have to use the XU10 upper engine mount and, if you have powersteering, have to reroute the coolant hose or use the mi16-pump (if that fits to the head)

but at all it should be possible to use this block!

btw the s16 has much better oil system. a stronger pump and several other things that help to minimize the risk of throwing rods :-)

Yes: but it threw a rod for a reason.

Did you hammer the f*ck out of it, bouncing it off the rev limiter all the time? Did you do a track day and suffer oil starvation? Or was the engine poorly assembled in the first place?

I'm trying to establish what went wrong so we can fix it and avoid the problem in the future.

If it was a good engine and then your driving or style of use just blew it up, then only two things can be done to change the situation....

Miles

The S16 uses the same design pump, The heads do fit but we are not talking S16 bottom end here but a normal R bottom end, the pistons are far from suitable and raises the Exhaust manifold etc so it's allot more work to make the engine fit.
