You made sure there is enough brake fluid in there?

Possibly a dodgy switch if not low on fluid

its not below the danger line but maybe when accelerating / going uphill it is causing the light to flicker - its just below half way between max and danger. anyway the brakes feel crap to be honest ive noticed that recently so taking it to my peugeot man this afternoon.

Check the switch beneath the handbrake is clean. Give it a squirt of contact cleaner.

Check your fluid level and connections to the cap.

On the 1.6 I had trouble with my brakes feeling poor. Miles replaced both rear cylinders when I had the copper pipes replaced and they now feel pretty good.

funny you should say that i noticed a bit of a puddle underneath it that im sure was not there the other day, had a quick look under the sump etc fine dry but maybe something more sinister is amiss ill ask him to give the brakes a good check over as they are definately not what they were

any ideas as an estimate how much it will it be? there is fluid leaking by the 2 rear wheels and he said something about the cylinder and putting new shoes and something else on, he said id have to leave it with him for 2 or 3 hours bit worried to be honest is it a big job ?

Cylinders for the 1.6 are only about £15-£20 a side. Set of brake shoes about the same. Factor in a couple of hours labour.

Consider the state of the drums and drum brake mechanism too.

If it isn't the fluid or handbrake switch, check the wires to the pad wear sensors. If they're severed or loose it can make the light come on.

The pad wear sensor goes to a totally separate orange lamp in a 205.

Really? I always thought they went to the brake warning light. Mine certainly did when I dissected the old looms. :D

I seriously say you should have a go yourself, it is easy and will only take a couple of hours.

That's reasonable enough. It's like most jobs on the 205, once you've seen how it's done, have the correct tools and aren't a total spoon it's quite easily achievable. Although if you aren't confident it's always best to leave brakes to someone who knows their way around them. Glad you have it sorted though.
