Engine Loom 6 Pin Brown Plug

Recommended Posts

dino20vt

Im in the process of converting a 1.6 that was running a 1.9 an mi16 engine back to 8v power (1.9). The larger of the two brown plugs were present so I just plugged that in, unfortunately the smaller six pin plug isnt! "All" I need is a diagram or description telling me where to splice the five wires on the engine side to the fuse board.

My brown plug:

Pin 1: SPARE

Pin 2: WHITE 76

Pin 3: YELLOW/GREEN M3

Pin 4: BLUE 112

Pin 5: RED 74A

Pin 6: BLUE 97

Once connected, all being well, it should run! (now ive swapped the loom and removed a dodgy alarm)

PS the loom was taken from a G plate phase 1.5 1.9 running the early coil set up ie. NOT the inlet mounted coil.

Am I asking a stupid question or have I stumped everyone? :D:D

I'm not the best on this matter but does the 8v engine run the motronic or jetronic injection system?

Ive just fitted an 88 1.9 to my 92 shell and that had motronic ecu and loom, in the end i had to change the loom for a jetronic one as it was easyer for me.

its that if your engine runs motronic wouldn't it be easyer to use a later loom or vice versa?

like i said i'm only guessing here, there could well be a much better way around your problem than i've suggested.

Is it an early phase 1 205 you are fitting it to? If so they have the connections you are looking for on the loom from the fusebox that comes through the bulkhead on the passenger side IIRC. Wire numbers are the same.

In a nut shell (not) the engine came out of phase 1 309, as I removed it I realised it was nothing like the wiring in the phase 1.5 205 it was destined for. On the 309 the two brown plugs went through the bulkhead straight to the fuse board on the passenger side, not the drivers side, plus there were at least 10 wires wired straight into the fuseboard and the fuel pump relay was was housed near the o/s headlight, unlike the 205 which has the two brown plugs, ecu plug and fuel pump relay all going to the drivers footwell where they "should" terminate?

Because of the differing set ups I put a phase 1.5 loom onto the 309 block to make the conversion a little more plug and play. The only problem is there is no where to plug the smaller plug into, ie only the larger plug in the drivers footwell is there, as it had an mi16 engine in it.

Are phase 1 309 gti fuse boards the same as 205 phase 1.5?

If so, I plan to see where the wires go on the fuse board from the brown plug (on the 309 as the dash is out) and use that to plug onto the engine.

I think what im trying to say is there is no link between the drivers footwell to the fuse box!

ah i see no link for the smaller brown plug to the fuse board.

I couldn't tell you about the fuse boards now but i'd imagine they would be simillar.

I take it the haynes manuel isn't any addition? i find thier wiring diagrams are not the most easy to follow but then again thats me.

I find them fine to use, they even tell you which plug the wires go to and have a diagram marking which plugs, and Pugtorque even has a picture with the colour coding marked on it too <_<

(the sockets in the fusebox have paint dabs next to each slot IIRC)

it must just be me so  , i'm hopeless at electrics took me a day of messing to figure out i had a different loom and ecu setup for the engine (jetronic/motronic) I must read more instead of diving in <_<

Pin 4: BLUE 112

Pin 6: BLUE 97

Taken from my little schematic of my ph1.5 B)

Pin 2: Goes to a single connector on the fuse board - fuel pump +ve

Pin 4: Goes (via large brown plug on dash loom) to dash - rev counter

Pin 6: Goes to fuse box slot 21 Pin 1 (2nd from left, bottom row) - starter motor

Edit:

Pins 1, 3 & 5 are left out 'cos they aren't used.

Hope that helps.

Cheers that does help, i'll have a go at it in the next few days!
