Clicking F/pump Relay, Cold Start Valve And Coil

Recommended Posts

floodys

basically i need HELP!! i put my mi enginbe in the car and when i turn key to the position just before i start it, the fuel pump relay clicks like mad so do's the coil pack and the cold start valve, now, i tried fiddling about with all the loom in case of a loose wire and cant get it to stop, if i disconnect the coil pack it stops (p.s i have tried 3 different coil packs) the car will run by the way but it seems quite lumpy, i'm going to try and run a good earth straight from battery in the morning to see if its that, but in the mean time if anyone has had the same sort of prob or can shed some light on this prob it would be much helpfull!!!!

I had this problem on a phase 2 and although the setup is different it might be worth looking inside the relay or trying a known good one. Mine was a corroded relay interior.

Mine turned out to be a really crap gearbox earth after all, but only to one of the ecu earth pins (5 i think?) and this was sending the whole lot nuts!

Well the problems back! ran fine his aftrnoon, put every thing back together and low and behold it won't start and the ignition is going a bit bonkers, as described above. This must mean that there is a loose connection or damaged wire somewhere under the bonnet?

Does anybody have any idea about what could be causing this?

Just to let you know i'm 100% sure that my problem was the ECU, i changed it over and its been perfect ever since!! i now have 2 spare ecu's.......

I've had the same problem since I completed my conversion. I tried new coil, ign amp and relays. Had a new loom made in case mine was faulty somewhere, I also sent my ECU to be tested and it came back 'No Fault Found' and tried various over things to try and stop it happening. All to no avail, sometimes it goes away for a bit but always comes back. Also while it is ticking the rev counter bounces up and down the dial but I have absolutely no idea what it is. I'll be keeping an eye on this topic.

This is what i don't understand, it ran fine but then returned without my going near the ecu, if the ecu was at fault, am i right in thinking that the issue would be constant?

I'm not a complete numpty when it come to wiring but this is getting the better of me!!

I'm hopefully getting hold of a second hand ecu asap.

I'll let you know how I get on...

Chucked a new ecu on there today and problem has disappeared!

So next time I won't be bothering with the multi-meter, just slap a new ecu on!

Hmm, looks like I need to try a new Ecu on mine then. Hopefully that cures it.

Yeah cheers for the advice! Hopefully I'll have a look at the broken ecu and see if I can pinpoint the problem but it seems very unlikely I'll find it!
