Oil Pump Chain How Tight?

on the mi i've got a big geared oil pump and a 26? tooth drive cog and a 52 link chain, i've got 3-4 different spacer's, i had it fitted up with one small spacer but chain was loose and could hear it slapping, i've got another thin spacer i offered up tonight with the first spacer and it seems ok but chain isnt "tight" nor loose? is there a way of knowing how tight it should be??

i've also seen an D6B-engine that had no spacer plate between engine and oil pump. i was a bit confused but changing the oil pump to a dkz one and trying to fit the spacer was not possible. maybe that engine had another chain / wheel...
