Has My Gti6 Pulley Slipped

Recommended Posts

Paul_13

After finding out my cambelt was too tight I loosened it off, next I had the problem of the engine struggling to fire up straight away like it had previous.

After checking the timing it was a tooth out (I believe).

I timed up the engine before using the hole behind the starter motor, but have been told this can be incorrect.

I placed the pulley on the crank and the timing hole is way out, I understand this is a problem but I want to clarify my pulley has slipped before trying to track down a 8v pulley.

^No holes

Pulley on crank:

It seems as thought the timing hole on the pulley is behind the three holes.

Some help please, struggling a bit

Do bear in mind that it would b an idea to replace that pulley, and Miles does a Nice alloy version, as the rubber deteriorates its possible for the pulley to become separated (as it has already stated to do)

though as mentioned, an 8v pulley will get you going.

Out of interest; the timing hole behind the starter, can this be used to time the engine?

Kyepan mentioned that the flywheel can be installed in different locations on the crank, every other engine i've timed up i've used this and it's worked fine.

I have no idea where that hole would place the crank in this instance, as far as I know there is no corresponding locking hole on the petrol XU flywheels, only the Diesel.

the flywheel can only be installed in one position, as there is a single locating dowel.
