Groupa Rose Jointed Gear Rods

I was offered a set of brand new old stock Peugeot Talbot Sport rose jointed gear rods for my 205 euro Rallye and they were so cheap I had to buy them! However they come with threaded rods, the rod ends and loads of spacers. My question is do you have to cut off the balls on the original selection arms and then drill them and put bolts through the rose joints instead?

Cut the balls off and weld on the studs.
