(not sure how true this is) I agree that spending your money on other things will be much better spent, these mod chips do not have a good rep. EDIT> Sorry i ment the ECU is self learning. (As iv been told, when you change a few engine,exhaust bits) Was told this years ago, I carn't remember who told me, its nice to know the truth about it any how. (not sure how true this is) I don't know who told you that but you shouldn't listen to them as it is so wrong its hard to know where to start. 205 GTI ECUs don't even have a chip so the superchips conversion is just a few pence worth of components that mess about with the overrun fuel cutoff and are a total waste of money as already said. (this is referring to Jetronic 205 GTIs, i.e. 99% of UK models, Motronic models do have a chip but its still not worth changing) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

This forum is FULL to the brim of real tuning expertise, all based on experience; and we are STILL experimenting. Dan Given your other replies I'm not sure what answer you want here? If you fit a "chipped" ECU you just have to plug it in, that's it. For the record though, as said above the "superchip" process is to change a few of the components within the ECU to change the fuelling. It's commonly used to "fix the problem of kangarooing, and by fix I mean mask as a well setup car shouldn't do it. These are primitive ECUs, no ability to learn, no map on them - just a setup of components that open injectors for a given period. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

It's not like other cars where you can fit a performance chip, as there is no chip in the ECU to change. Dan You were actually 'pissed off' about something as menial as that? Wow. I feel sorry that you want to waste your money on something that will not improve your car in the slightest, but then it is your choice. But my advice is not to post here if you don't want opinions. GLPoomobile 958 Posted July 27, 2009 Actually, if you want to get really anal about it, you asked "care to explain" after being told not to bother with it, so people obviously assumed you were asking why it was considered to be a waste of money. Yes, it is unfortunate that sometimes you get answrs to a question you never asked when you come on here, but it's usually still good advice even if it's not specifically what you want hear. If you are buying a Superchips ECU simply because you need 'an' ECU (perhaps your existing ECU is faulty or etc), then fair do, it's probably not going to do any harm, and providing you get one at a reasonable price. But if you are buying one because you think it's going to solve a problem or release extra performance, then you are totally mistaken, and this is why people are trying to advise you against it.
