4 Std Throttle Bodies At Once? Would It Work

i had a thought today would it be possible to run 4 std throttle bodies say from a lower spec pug (purely for the diameter of them) connected together to form a set of itb's ?

 

the only tricky part i can see would be the linkages between them?

 

does anyone know if this has been done or even if it is possible, i dont really see why not tbh.

 

sounds doable to me??

 

any thoughts

It's not just the linkages; the bodies themselves are usually joined or braced as they are designed to be.

 

The work required (and ingenuity) to join 4 x std bodies to me isn't worth it when you can get a set of already suited bike bodies for £80.

 

Other cars have usable bodies too. I have a set of Nissan Pulsar GTI-R bodies. Very nice bit of kit. £50. The cost and skill is getting a good manifold made to suit the ITBs in my opinion, as there's not really much to a throttle body, which perhaps is why you've asked this question, as all fuel injected cars have them.

 

It could work as all engineering projects can. It's usually a case of how deep your pockets are.

i think the cost could be less than a full set of bike tb's (cheap scrappy round my way) , agreed the linkages could be a pain also fixing them together too but i always fancy a challenge and with car tb's you can get a nice big size too.

 

i'm thinking maybe a twin cable setup or just linking the tb's in pairs and using a central cam and single cable. hmm

 

it also means using a car tps and throttle cam too which could be benificial.

 

with regards to the manifold i'm looking into having the std 6 manifold fitted with flanges to eliminate the use of hose joiners which will mean having the same flanges fitted to the t'bs too

 

has the pulsar got itb's then or you mean you have a set of them?

 

i will get out to the scrappy and get measuring and see.

aside from the practical side of actually making it all fit, the throttle will be too big to get nice low down control, so it'll drive like a kangarooing dog at low speeds

i was thinking that, but if i can get 45-50mm inlet tb's surely they would suffice?

 

it's just an idea anyway, it may never happen.

45-50mm would sound about right for a 2L upward high performance engine as for 1.6 engines people usually go for 40-42mm

Sounds like a bad idea to me, what's the point? Is it just a cost saving exercise? As Sarty said there are far easier and cheaper (in the end) ways of getting ITBs, and they will look a hell of a lot neater too.

after looking at a few designs of throttle bodies, i'm thinking it may well be far too tricky to get them mounted together due to the amount of gubbins attached to them.

 

as dr s stated the effort (not so much cost ) would outweigh the gain as i have been looking at a set of gsxr 750 bodies with a dia of 44mm which should do (i got the correct ones this time too)

 

its not really for cost saving (well maybe a little :blush: )just a different idea thats all

 

still an idea though
