Hard Wiring The Fuel Pump?

Recommended Posts

timb1046

ok, the previous owner of my gti had bodged most of the wiring so that the fuel pump was run in a strange way, when it came to my mi16 conversion i have simply hard wired it in on a switch. will this affect anything? such as the injectors firing? as far as i knew the fuel pump is seperate and as long as theres fuel pumping its all ok?

also on another note i remember seeing a nice fuse board layout picture around on here and cant find it for the life of me, anyone got a copy they could post for me?

many thanks

Tim

The only thing I will say is that there is now nothing to stop the fuel pump in the event of an accident and the engine stopping running. Worst case scenario, 205 upside down in ditch with petrol pissing all over driver etc.

2 easy options here

1- Put it back to how it should be- the tachymetric relay will only stay in with the engine running, so if it stops the pump will stop

2- Fit an inertia switch into the circuit- a heavy shunt will break the circuit and stop the pump.

i will put saftey stuff in at a later date and am not intending on running the car like this, however for now im trying to eliminate faults, and this could be one of them as the injectors are not fireing to the best of my knowlage as there is no voltage to pins 1 or 2 on any injector plug. and i was wandering if lack of fuel pump wiring would cause this

On the Jetronic 8v management, the tachymetric relay provides power for both the fuel pump and the injectors.

No, because without the ignition on, there would be no power to the coil for one thing, thus no spark.
