I was wondering how you got around getting 1.9 GTi alloy in the rear arches withouth them rubbing. I have an XS and GTi alloys and don't want to have to get a different rear beam. Any ideas?

Thanks very much

PS the car looks very nice

Hi, i'm using a 1.9 rear beam. When i was still using a base model beam though i had some bad rubbing because the beam was knackered and it had lots of camber. Sorry.

No worries, I was thinking about getting an arch roller and doing it that way but many people say it is the inner arch that rubs so i think i will take a hammer to it. I also noticed that the rear bumper rubs a little when the car is loaded so i was going to grind that off where its needed. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Thanks again though.

Ok been doing a bit more work on the ignition system this week. On Tuesday i picked up a triggerwheel and some various ignition parts from Will DiClaudio (Thanks again mate <_< ) Yesterday i got the car out of the garage and started measuring up for a bracket to mount the crank position sensor, just need to finish making it now.

I gave the trigger wheel a lick of paint after removing all the rust in the sandblaster at Uni and stuck it on to see how it looks:

I also fitted the exhaust that arrived last week but i think it's going back where it came from becuase as you can see it looks rediculous and doesnt fit at all:

Today i decided to make a mount for the coil pack. The DTA loom i got from Matt had a plug for a Ford coilpack on it and the box of bits i had from Will has a Ford Coilpack in it...result :o I took the two mounts:

And after a bit of cutting and welding i had a Peugeot mount adapted to take a Ford coilpack:

Ideal B) I then gave it a tryout on the car:

It clears the bonnet fine with the leads on. I also found out i can use the Ford leads but the No1 lead is too short so i need another No2 lead to feed the No1 cylinder. If the weather holds out this weekend i shuld be able to get a bit more done on the loom.

that looks more like where a gti exhaust would hang. Still looks too low even for that. Hanger rubber mounts ok?

Yeah the hangers are good quality Poly ones. I did think GTi exhaust but as you said, it still looks hideously low. I can't imagine riding the kerbs at Llandow with that exhaust, it would come clean off

BTW, happy birthday mate

I spoke to the exhaust place today it turns out that yours Neil was a one off they made and they reckon it's supposed to hang down that low :) I'm going to send mine back and get another but if it still hangs that low then methinks i'll be modifying the hangers quite a bit. Nothings bloody simple is it.

Ok done a bit on the car this week, mostly been buying bits though. I picked up my new 24mm torsion bars at the weekend. Unfourtanatly for me though because the bars are so large they wont just slide though the trailing arm so i'll have to strip the beam and fit them that way  Anthony kindly gave them a coat of red paint for me and here they are next to my new Saxo VTR 22mm ARB, this car is going to be seriously stiff

DSC00586.jpg

I made myself a torsion bar puller to make removing the old ones a bit easier:

DSC005822.jpg

I went to Peugeot to order some new bearings and seals for the beam and luckily they had some old ones in stock so they're good OE quality ones and not the inferior redesinged parts:

DSC00588.jpg

I also made up an adjustable dummy shock to make setting the rideheight easier (forgot to take a pic though)

While i was in uni today i made a centre console for the car to mount my switches on. After a bit of cutting and folding i had this:

DSC00585.jpg

It's going to house my fog light switch, hazzard switch, 12v socket, fuel pump switch, fan switch, battery master cut off and the fire extinguisher pull cord. I also bought a 6ft pull cord from Merlins so the cut off can be operated externally:

DSC00587.jpg

And tomorrow i should be making a sort of carbon fibre bucket to mount it to. More updates soon.

Fingers crossed the arm shafts are still good then Mark!

What are you running up front to match these big bars btw?

Would love a passenger ride, will have to bring a helmet to Coombe

Yeah i'm praying the shafts are good, can't really afford some new Pug ones right now. I'm running 300lb springs with Bilstein Tarmac dampers, my friend and i were jumping on it and all that was moving was the tyres

More than welcome to ride shotgun in it, as long as i can get it to the track sometime

Just drive it like you do a van - that'll surely make up for the lack of capacity and valves :D
