With regards to the water pump topic discussed earlier, we have decided to run it with the pump and an alternator to start with as we are struggling enough as it is just getting the basics so dont want to bite off more than we can chew!

Couple of questions now (pretty please ;) )

On the new engine, the pulley near where the alternator is, is this the power steering pulley? Can we run without it? (the car doesnt have power steering) and if so, do we just take it off? or do we run the belt around it so it turns then just blank off the holes so it effectively becomes an idler pulley?

Next question: The clutch cable sits differently on the engines, one has a longer clutch arm than the other, does this indicate one has a Be3 box and one has a Be1 box? And what should we do about this?

Any help appreciated greatly B)

Richard

Hi richard, take the power steering pump off completley. Theres no point turning it if you are not using it.

As for the gearbox, Just use the gearbox that came with the car, that way you dont have to change anything.

A little bit about the electric water pump even though I don't think your going with this now, another advantage is when the car is cold, the water pump will be off allowing the engine to warm up quicker, also the temperature that you want to maintain the engine at can be set instead of leaving your thermostat controlling it. You can get lots of different temp thermostats but usually they are still a bit high for track/performance cars so lowering the water temp to between 60-70 lowers the risk of detonation when being abused for long periods.

Good luck with it all mate.

Hi Phil, cheers for the reply. Regarding the gearbox, the reason we have got a new engine is because the engine and gearbox that were in it were knackered, we bought the car as a non runner. Would it be possible to change the clutch arm over?

The electric water pump does sound like a good idea, is this what you run on yours?

Hope you had a good weekend at USC, we are hoping to take this car next year with any luck!

Rich
