Engine Upgrade Or Mods ?

Recommended Posts

Hi i am currently driving a 1.9 with a 1.6 gear box and am more than pleased with the differnce of a standard 1.9, but would like that little bit more power to supprise some of the so called newer and better hot hatches ect. Im thikning the road i would like to go down is mi16 or gti 6, i have no need of top end im all about the acceleration and being i have no where to use top end speed in a island 9 miles by 5. If would be to get this done i would prefer some one over on the main land to do the conversion, i was wondering if anyone could recomend some one in the waymouth or pool area, and this point in time im just looks for a ruff cost, i have no engine or anything.

4.4 CW&P? Lowering the top speed but increasing acceleration, which is what it sounds like you want!

IMO, fit an LSD before anything else, that is assuming everything else is in fine fettle, eg. brakes suspension etc.

well i was intending to do the brakes as well, suspension is allrady done, and i would be getting a LSD anyway i would just rather get every thing done it one sitting.

Rebuilt lightly fettled 1.9 8v & the 4.4 cwp should be more than enough for use on your island.

A few martes & me had been planning a trip to the Isle of Man in August with them in their 911's & me in my Pug, I've been threr breifly before (not in a Pug) but they said I'd be as fast if not quicker because I could make use of the power in my car far more than they could.

by lightly fetted we talking about, 4.4 cwp?

Light fettled; rebuilt, lightened & balanced bottom end (blueprinted) rebuilt skimmed head, three angle seats & some porting from a known good source, fresh cam & vernier pulley all set up correctly.

4.4CWP is a lower final drive taken from something like the 405 MI16 or BX 16v gearbox & swapped into yours with the 205 ratios.

CWP - Crown Wheel and Pinion is your final drive. So essentially every gear you use, the final ratio is dependant on the CWP. Using a lower 4.4 would give you better acceleration, just like fitting your 1.6 has done, but obviously wouldn't be great for your top end, but, as you say, that's no issue.

Graham could well be talking about some light port and polishing, which open's up the ports on your inlet slightly, allowing better flow or air/fuel mix, which will give you abit more punch. But i'll let him explain that one as I've no experience with 8v 'fettling'

Edit: Beaten to it by a much better explanation
