hi, ive searched loads for this but not really found what im after, im looking at putting the gti6 box on my mi16, ive found that i need a phase 1 gear stick and lift up reverse cableing, use the 5speed BE speedo housing and to use the BE clutch assembly

what im unsure about is

driveshafts? im going to replacing both of mine anyway and was thinking of using 309 ones with 309 wishbones, would this be ok?

dif? im thinking of gettng a atb dif so would any BE one work with the 6 speed box?

turning circle, i no this will be crap on a normal gti but will it be much better with a dimma kit and dimma wheels?

cheers james

Can't comment on the diff, but I'd suspect any Quaife type BE diff would fit, but I DON'T know this from experience, so let someone elseconfirm.

Turning centre won't be any better no

Quaiffe diff is a straight fit...and has the advantage that you don't need to modify the driveshafts. 390 shafts will be fine.

you will also need the 5 speed clutch arm and one gear selector arm.

If i remember correctly on mine I had to make sure one of the driveshaft seals sat slightly raised out of the diff housing otherwise the driveshaft did not seal. Short one I think... other than lifting the gearbox up it was a relatively straightforward job...

I did this on my 205 mi16. The only thing not mentioned so far is the clutch cable. Im using the genuine gti6 one. I did it about 4-5 years ago and cant remember if it was out of necessity or simply an upgrade.

I suspect it was needed, as the 306 gti6 clutch is a pull clutch, and the standard 205 gti clutch needs to be pushed (or vica-versa), hence different cable and arms.

I just swapped the parts from the original box and used the standard clutch cable, then just removed all the gti-6 clutch brackets.

cheers for the info, i picked a 6 speed box up last night and its around 60mm longer than a 5 speed so hopefully i shouldnt loose to much lock, as soon as ive found a be1 shifter then i can put it in, its noticeably heavier than my old 5 speed though so going to be fun to fit on my drive

you'll lose roughly 60mm of lock seeing as its common for a 195 50 to rub the end of a standard 5 speed box...
