Best Place For Axle Stands At The Back.....

Recommended Posts

one-lady-owner

I'm doing my stub axle in the morning and am after a little advice, where is the bast place to put axle stands on the rear? I'm assuming on the torsion tube is probably not a good idea, so where else? I intend lifting the whole back end as it'll be easier to do it at a slight height, and I need to do the discs on both side so I thought I'd just life the whole back end of the car!

Also, feel free to wish me luck and keep your fingers crossed that there isn't anything more sinister I haven't noticed yet!

Thanks in advance!!

on the rear beam is where I'd place them, probably the most solid structure on the car!

id second the rear beam. and if your axle stands are quite deep just watch that they dont catch on the torsion bars.

beam tube, jacking points on the sill, dependant on the style of your stands though!

As above, on the beam most times but if I'm removing the beam I use the two jacking points inside the sill lip next to the tank.

Just hope someone hasn't done a bodge brakepipe replacement & run them round the side rather than over the tank because it could mean you can't use them.

Graham.

Job done!! One of those jobs that you expect to take ages and be reasonably difficult, so when it takes you an hour and nothing goes wrong part of you is sure you've missed something!!

Here's a pic of the old and new stub axle, it's surprising how such a small looking bend makes such a huge difference to the angle of the wheel! On a plus note the inner race did seperate from the hub, but none of the balls fell out and there is now plenty of grease holding it all in!

Really glad I spent 2 hours the other day going through my spares to find the stub axle I was going to give you for nothing...

At least you got it sorted though, that's the main thing.

Skip Brown, ridiculously helpful people!!! £30 delivered. That's £30 for the good straight used one, I didn't ask how much new ones were, the woman said they weren't making another batch of new ones for a little while as they had mega stock of good used ones. Bloody good company though!
