Repeated Driveshaft Failure

Recommended Posts

jims205s16

Hi all,

have a 205 with S16 conversion running 1.6 gearbox.

i have covered about 20k on the driveshafts that came with the car without problem but recently has all gone wrong.

lower arms went and were replaced along with new hub as ovalled on drivers side and had new steering rack.

then the drive shaft went on drivers side. Had a new one fitted and lasted 100 metres and blew in half at the inner cv joint

this was because idiot french mechanic (happened in middle of Dijon) fitted wrong shaft and just hoped it would be fine.

have now fitted correct shaft and 300 miles later and vibration through the pedals, knocking when accelerate and inner joint has failed again.

any suggestions as to what is destroying the driveshaft is welcome as at £100 a time expensive to replace each week.

its got 1.6 driveshafts but had them on for over 20k so dont see why they should start failing now

and its lowered by 35mm

and £100 for non but because driveshaft so damaged would not take old one back so had to stump up for the £35 sur charge

had a good look today

looks like the gearbox mount let go and the engine pulled across to that side

only half an inch but ment that on full lock the driveshaft was extending to far coming just outside the casing and destroying it

bought new gearbox mount and new driveshaft should have them in by end of the week so will confirm if this was the problem

if not another driveshaft down and we start again (please let it be right)

Hi did this cure the fault? The reason that i ask is that i have a 205/6 and recently have posted for help as i am having vibration problems but only when decelerating. I think that it may have something to do with the O/S driveshaft as it has become tight in places when turning the driveshaft by hand. Mine is lowered approx 35mm as well but didn't think to check gearbox mount, will do at the weekend.
