Oil Pump Number Of Teeth On Cog Xu9j4 + Xu10

Recommended Posts

i just want someone who may have a XU10 oil pump out of a car to count the teeth on the cog on the pump, i think my teeth on the XU9J4 are 29?? basically i want to run the 26 drive cog and the 52 link chain then my oil pump, but if the XU10 pump has less teeth i think i'm right in saying the pump will run faster thus better oil pressure??

p.s if i use the above set up, which oil pump spacer would i need?? cheers

The number of teeth on the pump is the same. It's the crank drive cog that differs between XU9 and XU10, with more teeth on the XU10 hence spinning the pump faster for a given engine speed.

the xu10-pump is also different on the inside. i think it has another spring and maybe the tooth-wheels differ also.

a friend of mine installed the xu10-pump in an xu9 without changing anything else and got the stated higher oil pressure.

thats the crankshaft-ring for the xu10-pump:

i count 26 teeth there!

edit: the earlier xu10j2 had 22dts, the newer one 26!

the xu10-pump stays the same, only the chain has changed from 50 (for 22) to 52 (for 26) elements!

so we are saying that, the cog on the pumps themselves are the same teeth?? and that the spring in the XU10 is different to the XU9? well thats ok because i have brought a XU10 6bar spring, i realise that there is different cogged drive sprockets i.e mine 22 and XU10 is 26. so, if i run the 26 tooth and stanadad XU9J4 pump, i should get better o/p?? correct???!!!

at least you need the crankshaft wheel and the chain, i can't confirm anything other

I think you're getting yourself a little muddled.

The XU10 spring will increase the maximum oil pressure that the pump will deliver.

The XU10 oil pump drive cog and chain will increase the oil flow for a given rpm, effectively meaning that you will reach maximum oil pressure sooner.

Neither will solve the oil starvation issue that Mi16's suffer with on track, but both are recommended in conjunction with other modifications to combat/fix the oil starvation issue. After all, if there's no oil around the oil pump pickup, it doesn't matter how fast the pump is spinning or what spring is installed, you'll still see no oil pressure if the pump is sucking up air.

yeah thanks for that, i did guess that if there was no oil then there would be no pressure!!! thats why i have got a sump baffle to fit too, my point from te outset of this was to know if i needed to buy a XU10 pump!! if i didnt/dont then i wont!!!! i'll just use 26 cog tooth drive and the 52 chain. cheers ian
