Quick Oil Pump Question

Recommended Posts

Saveit

Hi,

Just a quick one. Ive disassembled my oil pump to replace the spring. Ive tried to be very careful to not loose anything when doing this. But somehow something got messed up anyway. The thing is ive got a round metal "tube" about ½ inch or so long. It fits on the outside of the spring. But I dont know where I should place it? To me it seems as though it could sit on top of the little pistons on the end of the spring?

Stefan

Is this picture any help?

If not have you got a picture of the part you mean because I can't visualise it from when I last took a pump apart. :P

Graham.

Found out that it was the guide pin thingy that sits in the oil canal from the pump to the block  Had to remove another oil pump just to check.

Where does this pin live exactly? I have it and am not sure where it goes?

Quick answers appreciated i want to get the sump back on today and i need to know where it lives first!

My guess was that it sat in the spring....... but from the the above I'm now not sure.

It lives in one of the holes. Try if it fits in any of them. But if i remember correctly it sits in the hole on the side that has only 1 bolt.

Ahh that one i dont know. Its not the same as mine. That one looks more like the one from the clutch lever. Havent seen one like that anywhere around the oil pump.

Created a new post to identify it.

I don't want to put the sump on and leave something out!

It may just be that it got mixed up with oil pump bits when I bought the Xu10 oil pump.

Does that "guide pin thingy " fit in all engines. Just pulled my mi16 apart and no "guide pin thingy" was fittet!????

Do I need one?

Thanks

It helps guide the oil as i believe the guide is in the hole where the oil is being pumped up through the engine. Could possibly mean a loss in oil pressure - or i could be wrong?

You´re probably right Stefan.

There must be a guide bushing in my 8v engine that I can use.

Do you have the oil pump "L" shaped spacer plate in your engine? Or does the oil pump bolt directly on to the block? If you have the spacer, but dont have the guide, then you must loose oil pressure as a lot will run out there instead of being pumped up through the engine. But i could be wrong as i dont fully remember how the spacer plate sits and if it traps the oil or not.

Yes there is a L shaped spacer plate.

I´ll have a look at it tomorrow.
