306 Xsi Xu10j2 Cam – Is It Used On Turbo Builds?

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

As above really, I have a good condition 306 XSi 8v cam and I have heard that it can be used for turbo conversions as it quite lazy.

I was thinking of selling it but need to understand who to pitch it to.

Many thanks

Jonny

I have one, though it isn't installed yet.

It is supposed to be a decent upgrade cam, very similar to the DKZ but will know for sure when I fit it.

I'm very interested to measure one of these, to see how it does compare in profile to the other standard cams, lift/duration/overlap etc.

Here is what I found measuring so far, be nice to add a DKZ and a 306 XSI cam to the chart as well.

I've just installed an Xsi cam and have to say i'm not overly impressed. I think it works better than the standard cam at higher revs, but the engine seems to hesitate at low revs, where it didn't do before, when trying to accelerate hard.

I'm using a standard engine and ecu, a simple remap may possibly cure this problem, i dont know.

Crazy-legs!

Ive had mine on the rollers with both. I havent noticed any losses off the bottom, but it has raised peak torque from 3,500 rpm to 4,000 rpm. It also seems much less asmatic up top, and revs out much cleaner. If i can find both print-outs i'll try and put them up.

Hope this helps! Marc.

Ive fitted three on standard turbo engines two of which have std turbos/management they all gave good results,as Crazy legs described far less asthmatic up top and far more willing to rev, these engines with the normal cam in are bloody hopeless even with the boost wound up !,torquey low down but not to sufficient enough degree to be usefull

Must be something wrong with your set up fella

I've driven it a couple more times now since, and agree that it does rev better. The turbo however, seems to start boosting a couple of hundred rpm later than before and there is more lag.

There may be a problem with the set up or engine, it doesn't feel quite as fast as i thought it would and top speed isn't much over 120mph.

Is the cam from the DFZ engine better, as i have one spare and was considering trying it out?

Well given that the standard turbo comes on boost at about 2krpm I wouldn't say its such a problem coming in at 2200!! It boost ridiculously low for a turbo engine anyway due to the tiny exhaust housing. I would much rather sacrifice some low down for a bit more higher up!

Think you might have a problem with your engine, mine will pull to the limiter in 5th with standard cam very rapidly! Which is a bit more than 120mph....
