Advice On Changing Injectors?

Recommended Posts

dk73

Hi guys,

Ive a standard 205 1.9 gti and my new injectors have arrived.

They are with the fuel rail so no need to take them off.

Can i have some advice in changing these please?

I.e. do i need any sealant for the thread for the fuel or is it just the case of changing them over easy?

Cheers guys. :D

Just change them over, pull the old ones out, push the new ones in, easy.

Think 2 bolts holding the fuel rail on. it will be a bit of a bastard to get off, but it will eventually!

When i have fitted them in the past, not used any sort of sealant!

The O rings on the injectors wedge into the holes on the inlet manifold. the same with the tops into the fuel rail but with clips to hold them in place.

The rail has 2 or 3 screws holding it to the inlet manifold as mentioned.

I managed to push all 4 into the manifold with them attached to the rail without using a lubricant on the O rings.

I was going to use oil to help guide them in place but it deteriorates rubber, So I just worked them in.

Check the O rings on the replacement injectors before you fit them. It they are hard and badly cracked then you will need to replace them.

Getting the rail and injectors off can be a bit of a bugger. IIRC I gently levered the rail using a long socket extension between the rail and the manifold. Gently prise at one side, then the other, then back to the first side and so on, carefully working it up until it pops free. You'll obviously need to remove the fuel hoses from the rail, so be careful where you aim it as you'll spray fuel from the supply hose as there will be excess pressure in it (you can get rid of the pressure by cranking the engine with the fuel pump fuse removed).

Slightly off topic question, but why do you use the heart icon in your topic titles? Are you just a very loving person? :P

i put ptfe tape round the fuel union but i dont think it was neceserry.,

1word of advice though. if they are injectors that have been chemically cleaned then try use them asap as if you dont the chemical inside crystalises and seized the injector shut. but if they are new like you say then no problem ..... i assume

saliva on o-rings is one of the best thing to use. I've snagged too many to "go in dry" ;)
