Mi Pistons And Piston Rings Question

Yet another rebuild issue.

 

 

Pistons found in my fubar D6C engine do not match good ones taken from another XU9J4, not sure whether it's D6C or DFW.

 

Apparently, oil ring size doesn't match.

Fubar pistons have oil ring recess 3mm thick, the good ones 4mm.

 

Also, the good ones' piston diameter between 2nd and 3rd ring is smaller than overall piston diameter.

 

Neither me or my mech are familiar with these engines. Is this normal situation?

 

As we found loads of horrible engine 'work' in my fubar engine, there's also possibility that someone has fitted wrong pistons.

We're further confused by the fact that piston ring set ordered from specialist came with 3mm oil ring.

Which does not fit 4mm recess.

 

 

What's wrong here? What is the correct Mi oil ring size?

Ive got a brand new set by Goetz. On the box its says

 

CITREON/PEUGEOT

XU9J4 1.9L

83x1.5+1.5+3mm STD

Tnx mate, mee too has set of these.

 

However, we figured out the piston problem:

 

Both piston sets have the same manufacturer code and casting number.

So, obviously, somone, somewhere, got ring set for 8v engine. Which has 4mm oil ring.

Instead of getting correct rings, oil ring recess was machined to accomodate 4mm oil ring.

 

I guess i picked up the worst 16v engine in the world.
