Carbone Loraine Pads. Where To Get Them From

Recommended Posts

SweetBadger

I ran Mintex M1155s and RC5s on the same day at Rockingham, the M1155s were fading after a couple of all out laps but when I swapped over to the RC5s the difference was massive - no fade at all & much better peddle feel - only issue on track was that I was locking the brakes up at first until I got use to them. They didn't seem to wear badly on track either...

However - It may be because the discs I used them with were already quite worn, but they didn't fair so well on the road. After about 2000 miles of further road use (commuting with no really heavy braking) the pads were close to needing replacement and the discs were totally shagged - they had loads of grooves in them and were literally almost worn through to the vents! There was also 3mm thick layer of disc/pad dust on the inside of the wheels which needed chipping off, guessing that's where my disc ended up.

I didn't notice any squealing witht hr RC5s, just a kind of metal on metal grinding noise at low speeds and very light breaking.

I've gone back to M1144s for road use (good but squeal and take a while to bed in) but will be buying another set of RC5s for the next trackday.

I didn't get on with 1144's they faded out about 2mins in to my lap (ring) and would be useless till I went out for another lap.

DS2500's I managed 3triple back to back lapping no problems at all. but I do fancy moving to DS3000's or similar for UK circuits.

What's the cost on a set of RC5's for a 1.9 Gti Kev?

could we do a group buy?

IRCC C_W had DS3000 on his car when we went to the Ring first time & he did his 8:48 lap, certainly stopped well from cold & with minimum noise.

They tend to eat discs though don't they?

I'm an NA chassis, but run NB brakes, however brakes only differ by engine size on all of them up until the "Sport" brakes which were 2003 onwards or something like that.

Anyway, blowdry trivia aside, if they're for 90-97 that means 1.6, ghey. Makes sense though as over here at least that (used to be) what people raced. I run 1.8 brakes now which weren't available until 93 or 94. Thanks for looking though

Theres NB brakes listed from 98-00 and some other nb/cup brakes from 00-05

personally i'd want to wait for the new compound as its so much better and sorts some of the problems with the old rc5 pad such as the dust but i could certainly do a group buy. 1.9 gti front pads will be around £80 but I should be able to sort a good deal.

Hmmm sweet. If they list them as Cup they're probably the 276mm Sport brakes. All other NB (quick edit- normal NB, not Sport) are all 255mm which is the same as 1.8 NA, original 1.6 owners get shafted by 235mm things, which are a pretty good imitation of crap.

Group buy does sound nice when the new ones come out.

Roughly a 2 sets of discs to one set of pads, but the discs are cheap for 1.9's it's also the metal flaking off can kill your shinee alloys.

Kev - how soon do think the revised compound will be out?
