The RC6 are really only for race or trackday use as they are quite abrasive and can squeal. A lot of the Renault clio boys used these with cheap low carbon disks and were getting sparks of disk material when they braked really hard lol so if you have nice bodywork then use high carbon disks as these cope with the high co-efficient of friction and wont have the wear issue.

If for road then the RC5 are more suited but they can give squeal on some cars under light braking due to the harmonics.

If you are after road pads then hold out for a month as a new compound is coming out. The RC5 PLUS which has no squeal, no dust and will replace the RC5 range. I run RC5's on the road and am quite happy. Just have to use proper cleaner to get the brake dust off.

well despite that theres not a lot else that can compete with the pad performance. They just simply do not get affected by heat like organic based pads. They can cope with over 800degree temperatures so fade is non-existent.

Sounds good, will they be available for the S16 266mm caliper?

Only slightly off topic seeing as the question has been answered, Kev do they do them for MX5s?

Edit (Just for future reference, the pads in my car are nearly new :P )

dont know if they will. They have created some new pads for the xsi as the same ones are found on the later 307's but it seems not many people are racing with 206 gti's

If you mean the 306 S16 I think theres a pad already

there is a listing for an MX5 NA made from 1990 - 1997 - is NA your chassis/model number?

RC5 are the same friction level as pads like mintex and pagid so similar wear.

I use them on a heavy bmw and dont have excessive wear.

Another good fast road pad is the mintex 1144's, pagid are more expensive in comparison but offer some nice compounds.

1144's :D I faded a set of these properly bedded in very quickly!

1155's were a good pad-I know every app and driver are different(I am very heavy on the brakes) but I would not recommend 1144's

Cheers

these will be used for rally stage events, i currently run mintex 1155 and found them quite poor when asking them to brake hard for a succession of 90 degree bends. so i will be looking for rc6 pads

i am looking for the calipers that also ran 266 discs, i maybe wrong but but didnt the s16 run 283mm discs and calipers.

no, S16 runs the same Caliper body as the 405's, 266mm disc (same setup as my ZX 16v, hence the question earlier)

its the gti6 that has a 283mm disc.

I'm an NA chassis, but run NB brakes, however brakes only differ by engine size on all of them up until the "Sport" brakes which were 2003 onwards or something like that.

Anyway, blowdry trivia aside, if they're for 90-97 that means 1.6, ghey. Makes sense though as over here at least that (used to be) what people raced. I run 1.8 brakes now which weren't available until 93 or 94. Thanks for looking though :)

I ran 1144's on my STDT & wasn't highly impressed with themover standard bendix pads.

I also have them in the 266mm brakes on my GTI but again I'm not impressed.

I ran with Pagid fast road pads on my GTI when I still had the standard brakes on Bendix calipers & they were great, I've just got some for the 1.9 Girling calipers & they'll be replacing the Mintex when I next take the brakes apart.

The carbone Loraine pads sound good though.

Graham.
