Whats Required To Replace 3rd Gear Synchro?

Recommended Posts

sussex_gti

When i do my 16v conversion in a couple of weeks, im also going to replace 3rd gear synchro, as i have the occasional grind going into 3rd. Im fine with stripping down the box and replacing it, but can anyone advise me if i purely need a new synchro, or is there any other parts i'd require?

Im also unsure if its a 1600 or 1900 box, going on the way it drives id say 1900, but wouldnt of thought the synchros would be differant, just the gear ratios?

Cheers,

Chris.

strip the gearbox down, replace worn part, re-assemble!

that's the short version, Haynes workshop manual covers it in more detail :D

there is also a guide on the interweb somewhere on how to swap the CWP, much the same kind of task.
