Problems After Engine Swap

Recommended Posts

Pob

Hi all,

I've just finished swapping the engine on my 1.9, it starts ok but it runs very lumpy, I've checked the cam timing and thats fine. It misses at idle and higher revs.... Any ideas? I carn't see anything I've left unplugged

Also my oil pressure gauge goes straight to max, it was fine before I removed the engine

Thanks,

Dan

For the gauge check that you've got the gauge sender and warning light switch connected the right way round.

I'll check that again, they are labelled... but I'll check

Could it be the fuel? It's been in there around 8-9 months

Thanks,

Dna

Do you know for sure the engine you have fitted was a 'good un'?

I don't see why it wouldn't be, the head gasket was replaced inc skim. Starts ok, just runs a little iffy. What could cause bad running if the engine had a problem?

Check plugs/leads/injectors

I have known a few people that have had issues like this that turn out to be pins simply coming loose inside their plugs. I had a loose pin in an afm plug after a putting an engine in. Wasn't the easiest of things to spot!

I'll recheck connections tomorrow..... could fuel be to blame? It has been in there a fair while and it's on reserve, what would be the best way to get it out?

Thanks,

Dan

You could simply remove the fuel line from the injector rail and run the pump.

However I doubt the age of the fuel will be giving you an issue, but if the level is drastically low I would get some more stuck in it.

Thanks for the info, I'll have a look tomorrow. The only thing that is not from the original engine is the ECU temp sensor... it wouldn't cause that much of an issue would it?

Thanks,

Dan

ECU water temp senders have been known to be the cause (and simple fix) of a lot of problems. Easy to do a one-for-one and eliminate it anyway. I'd try it.

I've got a few senders to try so I'll give it ago... Are ECU temp senders always blue? or this dependant on manufacture? The one fitted is black.... The others I have are blue

Thanks again,

Dan

My gti ran like a bag of crap after sitting for a year with very low fuel on the first start up. Good shot of injector cleaner and some V-Power cured it, worth trying the simple things first.

Sorted, not entirely sure what it was but I put 5 litres of fuel in, disconected the injector connectors and reconnected them, one of them wasnt quite clipped in. Checked the HT leads and it runs fine now :D

Thanks all,

Dan
