Mi16 Spacer Plate - How To Break The Seal?

Recommended Posts

Masekwm

I've spent the evening removing the sump to reseal on my MI, but for the life of me I can't get the spacer plate off. It's sealed with sealant and I've removed the two screws, however it's still stuck and I can't get anything in between the block and plate to separate them.

Is it a case of stick at it, or is there an easy way to do this? Search shows a few threads on removing the sump but no mention of the spacer.

Thanks

Keith

give it a light tap with a soft hammer to loosen it.

Put a bar or something between the spacer plate bar and one of the main bearing caps, and it'll pop off easily with a gentle pry.

It's been tapped and it's sat there still.

Anthony - Which bit? Those parts scare the crap out of me, what am I looking for? From looking at the Haynes similar to what holds the cam in place?

Thank you both

Just don't be tempted to pry it off with a screw driver and damage the mating faces.

Anthonys sugestion should work by prying against a main bearing cap.

To decribe them, they hold the crank to the engine block with 2 bolts, theres 5 in total, the end two make up part of the engine block and have the crankshaft seals in them too. You should be able to pry against the middle one if the oil pump isn't in the way.

The other bearing caps you can see in there are the 4 big end bearing caps for the pistons, it's safe to pry against them providing the cylinder head is bolted on, but they'll probably just move.

Got it off, thanks guys.

Unfortunately, the sensor in the sump with the black plastic extension on it, the black plastic bit fell off with the spacer plate. I think it's the level sensor, as the sensor isn't connected. So I've left it off, that is ok isn't it?

Many thanks again

you can remove the side plate on the cambelt side, then you have a nice location to push the spacer off.
