Dont attack me :D

No one is attacking you, we're just trying to give advice.

The very least you could do is see how it feels without the spacers on, as it costs nothing to try and takes little effort. If it is seriously compromising the handling, then it just doesn't make sense to take away what is best about the car for the sake of a very trivial cosmetic change. It's like people who lower their car excessively, reducing damper travel to nothing and creating bump steer. I love a lowered 205 GTI and will stick my neck on the line and say that at -60mm they look awesome, but I'd never lower one that far as it would totally ruin the handling. Do you see my point?

The rears dont go any further than the arches, without the spacers they still sat pretty far in (which I hate). And yes i'm running 1.6 hubs.

You make it sound like i'm some chavvy nob who prefers silly looks to performance, but I honestly can't stand it when the wheels sit too far in. It just looks like i've got a car with a huge body kit on it otherwise !

I understand the spacers will be affecting my handling, and yes i'm open to suggestions. I'd rather save up some cash and uprate some other parts like bushes and strut braces etc...to help improve the handling with the spacers still on it.

Good luck uprating some bushes to compensate! As tom says, your problem is much more fundamental. I think ignoring that, while asking for advice is encouraging comparisons to the undesirables who compromise performance for looks. How else would you describe what you are doing with the spacers?

I've looked into different wheel fitments lots recently, and it is complicated. I think people have been trying to help, and your determination to stand in the face of reason is frustrating them. From our perspective, it is a little like engineering your way around your cars inability to float - maybe it is possible, but you are probably better off in a boat!

Do you think it would be ok to just remove the front one's, as I previously only had spacers on the rear which made all the wheels sit square with each other, but someone told me that on a FWD car the front wheels need to stick out further than the rear (and on a RWD car the rear need to stick out further?).

If having the spacers only on the rear won't compromise handling then i'm actually more happy with that setup as it stops the front wheels from protruding the arches. Again, the only reason I have them on the front too is because of that advice I was given.

Cheers in advance.

Yes, just removing the front ones would go a long way towards it!

So does that mean the member that told me about FWD needing the wheels spaced further than the rear was chatting rubbish ?

Erm, personal prefernce i'd say rather than actual fact based, especially considering a 1.9 is narrower at the front than the rear as std, and a 1.6 vice-versa.

Ok thanks for the info, i'll remove the fronts as soon as the bloody weather calms down. I could probably do with 4 new tyres too soonish. Probably going to try out Falken 912's
