205 1600 8v Rebuild ?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

First post on here, but have been lurking in the background for a while, gathering up info. :)

I have a 205 1900 Gti Standard Injection that I use for Hills / Sprints.

I am changing Class next year and going 1600 and again Standard Injection ( Class Regs )

I have bought a 1600 later type engine to use but going to rebuild it before putting it in.

Planning to do the

Rings

Bearings

Head Gasket

Oil Pump Spring

Baffled Sump

Piper 285 kit ( out of the 1900 engine )

Head Flowed

I was just looking some advice from anyone who has built one up before, as to what else to do or change to have better CR, Torque, more bang for my bucks !! ;)

The Block and Head have to be 205 GTi items as standard and can not exceed 1700cc

Gearbox is 1600 with Quaffe Diff and 4.4 CWP

Thanks in advance for info

has your 1900 engine had headwork? if so you could just use that head.

one thing I would say though, a 285 cam is bloody horrible on standard management!

Check what engine you have, the latest 1600's were lower compression, 9.25:1, obviously this isn't ideal for you, as you'll be wanting as much compression as poss to make the most of the cam.

Check the engine code for a start, there is a complete list in the haynes manual of which engine is which.
