Gti6 Exhuast Manifold On S16? And Wiring Loom Question

Recommended Posts

Mr Bob

I'm going have another go at fitting a s16 engine to my 306 (last one didnt go to well) this time round I got a scrap s16 and took the engine out of it, it came with a gti6 exhaust manifold which I have fitted but I have concerns about certain aspects.

One is its sitting right agenst the head/rocker cover wil that be alright?

Another is I had to slightly move a coolent pipe and again its sitting just above the manifold:

Will that be alright or will it get too hot?

I have had to reroute a rubber coolent pipe:

Again its quite close, do you think I'll have issuses with it?

I also need to sort out heater matrix pipes as the manifold gets in the way and sort out a cat but I shouldnt have a problem

I done a serch but didnt find a great deal of info on this, has anyone got experience with doing this?

Also while I'm here, the scrap s16s loom was cut in places so I took the loom from my 1st s16 engine, everythings gone on fine but I'm left with a 3 pin black conector and a 3 pin white connector, I'm also left with a 3 pin black socket on the throttle body and the socket on the speed sensor on the dif.

Is it black to black and white to white?

Any help would be great

Thanks

The port spacing on the manifold wont match up to the S16 head, so you need to look at that first of all. Best bet is to take it off and have a measure, then go from there.

The plugs are often colour coded but if they aren't right I don't think they will fit to socket.

If you can peel back the rubber boot to have a look for a wirte number that should help but if not some time with a multimeter between the pins on the plug & the ecu plug should help find what the are.

Graham.

Sorry to dig up and older thread.

In regards to the port spacings being different is it just a matter of modifying the ports on the head or is it the other way around?

Thanks

Other way around really John, theres cutting and rewelding involved. Its do-able, Maxi has done one before and made good power on it. Maybe take the flange from an S16 manifold so you can see where the primaries on the GTI6 manifold need to go?

I like that idea Dan, as a GTI6 exh manifold is (quote JRG) 'a work of art', and S16 exh manifolds are dogsh1te and 10 a penny. Could be a good combo.

I wonder if when Adam's back from eating cheese he'll comment and say whether it's practical or not, and how he'd advise going about it based on his experience.
