Airbox On My Carbs

Recommended Posts

fast_eddie

I have searched and searched but I cant find a definitive answer.

I have a 309 git on 45's and I am just about to make an airbox for it. I have plenty of space up front to do a direct flat panel filter or I could box it out and make the filter (cone style) sit near the gearbox?

Any clues would be helpful

cheers

I was going to make something like this:

But have recently acquired a large sausage filter which will cover the velocity stacks. I am using stainless sheet to make a scoop which will direct cold air from the front (rad is lowered) rather than suck air in from the engine bay.

By having a large opening to ram air in you will get nice dense air, but after a lot of reading it seems actually producing a 'ram' effect (+ve pressure) is very hard and requires high speeds. If you didn't want to lower your rad then making an air box with a side mounted cone filter, sealed and fed via a cold air feed would work well, has been done before (smckeown did it) and would stop you from sucking in hot air from behind the rad.

You know what, the pictures you have posted depict my 2 options so thanks very much for that!

I have a lowered rad(bmw item) so have lots of space to play with. What I really want to know is which is the best?

I ran the car for 2 years without any filters at all so it might need a rebuild to get it up to spec again. I would like to know

which filter set up gives the best power?
