Alternator Removal

Maybe its because its 1am but how the hell do you remove the alternator on a 1.9gti?

 

Ive the wires disconnected and removed the 2 nuts but i cant get it off the long bolt that runs through the bracket. Am i missing something? On the drivers side of the alternator where the nut was, there is an opening leading me to believe that the bolt should remain on the bracket and the alternator should just slide off the bolt?

Undo the bolt and it comes off

Got it sorted. The bolt had been broken previously and someone had tac welded it on. Muppets
